Sea Island Quilters and their Southern Comforts Quilt Show
Southern Comforts, Bi-Annual Quilt Show:
Sea Island Quilters presented their bi-annual quilt show, “Southern Comforts 2009,” from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 2 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 3 in the Lynn Brown Activity Center, (previously Greene Street Gym), on the corner of Greene and Hamar streets in Beaufort. The show features more than 150 items, featuring applique, piecing and embellishing. Some of the quilts will be judged, and attendees can vote for the Viewers’ Choice.

The Sea Island Quilters have a strong community outreach program. More than 100 Gift Quilts are given each year to organizations such as Citizens Opposed to Domestic Abuse and Child Abuse Prevention Association. The guild also supports Friends of Caroline Hospice, holds quilting workshops and displays, and offers a scholarship/grant to study fiber arts. Many members of Sea Island Quilters volunteer as mentors at the PALS Senior Quilting Class in Port Royal, SC.

Saturday: 10 am - 5 pm
Sunday: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m

Summary: More than 150 quilts, guild quilt and fabric, vendors, a silent auction, consignments, a boutique and books for sale
2009 Cost: $5, children 12 or younger admitted free

Sea Island Quilters Meetings
Regular Program Meetings are on 3rd Thursdays from 6-8 pm, at Charles Lind Brown Activity Center, corner of Greene and Hamar Sts, Beaufort, SC.
PALS Senior Quilting Class: Every 4th Monday, several SIQ members mentor seniors at the PALS Senior Quilting Class, in Port Royal, SC.
